Do you have to be a photoshop artist to succeed in today's market?

Yes you do. Don't even bother learning any other photo or graphics program, Photoshop is the industry standard. Before the digital revolution photographers could shoot the images and then send them off to the lab for processing. The photographers involvement in the process ended once the shutter was pressed. Now photographers are expected to provide finished ready for print images. There are exceptions to the rule but don't even consider a career in photography without learning photoshop. Photoshop is an art form in itself. If you can master the program and learn how to do things very quickly, you will be way ahead of the competition. Many photographers refuse to admit that they're images need to be enhanced with a computer. Every image in every ad you see today has been significantly enhanced with photoshop. They take good images and make them even more amazing. With photoshop we can do things that are physically impossible in the real world. This opens up infinite possibilities. Don't fear photoshop because it is a massive complicated program. Use it every day, experiment as often as you can and try out every tool, filter or menu item. If you don't know how something works, look in the comprehensive tutorials that come with the program or search online for the answer. I highly recommend photoshop books from Scott Kelby.
Another reason for learning to do your own photoshop work is because it will save you a ton of money. I create my own ads, this web site, my business cards and much more with photoshop.
