Imagine for a moment that the person you love the most is suddenly taken from you under tragic circumstances. Your life will never be the same and you wonder if you can even go on living. Now imagine that a miracle is performed and doctors are able to bring your loved one, your life, your world, back to you. This is exactly what happens every time someone receives a donated organ. By becoming an organ donor you will save numerous lives. If your loved one was in the hospital near death and a transplanted organ could save them, you would jump at the chance and be forever grateful to whoever donated the organ.
Be that hero for someone else. It is the greatest gift you could ever give. The people who benefit from your generosity will never forget you and will probably become friends with your family. They will celebrate your birthday and morn the anniversary of your death. I know this because my own father received a heart transplant and is doing remarkably well today. He waited in a San Diego hospital for over a year before a donor match was found. This waiting period kills many patients, or their condition gets so bad that a transplant isn’t going to do much good. The waiting also drains a family’s income as loved ones vigilantly wait upon bedside, cherishing the last moments they have with their sick relative. If you ever find yourself in this situation, watching other transplant hopefuls die on a daily basis you will understand how much good could be accomplished if everyone was a donor.
We’ve all made mistakes in our lives. You can never go back and right the wrong but you can wipe out negativity with the gift of life.
Right now thousands of people are waiting for a transplant. Many of them will never receive it and children will be left without a mother, parents will lose their beautiful child, all because of ignorance and indifference. During the time it took you to read this, someone has passed away. It is the saddest day for that person’s family, but because that person is a donor, it is the happiest day ever for two other families.
Do the right thing... Save lives and become a hero.
