Canon or Nikon? Who's best and are they the only choice?

I don't even understand this debate. I've owned both camera systems and loved my pictures regardless of the camera I was using. You can't go wrong with either system. My first digital SLR was a canon EOS10D. When I was ready for a professional SLR I switched to Nikon. Nikons top of the line SLR was $3,000 less than Canon's. I liked the controls more, and I preferred the 1.6 magnification of lenses. If you're trying to decide between Canon or Nikon, look more at the lenses, flashes and accessories. You'll have these a lot longer than your camera body.

Are canon and Nikon the only choice in Digital SLR's?

Yes they are. Other manufacturers like Sony and Olympus are making pretty nice SLR's but they don't have near as many lenses and accessories. Canon and Nikon are titans of the industry. They've been in the game for a long time. They're not going anywhere. The same can't be said for any other camera manufacturer. If you choose another brand and they fold up in a few years you're out of luck. Think it couldn't happen? Let me tell you a story about a little company called Minolta.
The resale value of other manufacturers is pathetic. I can sell my nikon gear for almost the same price I paid for it when it was new. If I was trying to sell a sony lens I would be lucky to get 25% of it's value.
